OUR CURRENT PROJECTS

At Benewah SWCD, we believe that building and developing effective networks is crucial to the lives of our recipients. Since 2000, we have worked hard to strengthen relationships with various causes and organizations all over the world. All of the causes we support remain close to our hearts — and we see the importance of investing in such amazing organizations. Browse through our latest grants and see who we have been funding!

ST. JOE STREAMBANK STABILIZATION & REVEGETATION PROJECT

The project lies within Benewah County and consists of 13 separate private landowner sites along the lower St. Joe River. Cottonwood trees will be planted to provide shade for fish/wildlife. We expect that by stabilizing the banks and re-vegetation at these 13 sites it will reduce sediment loss and its associated nutrients; reduction in solar loading to the river; and enhance fish and wildlife cover and habitat.

CROP SIGNS

Benewah SWCD was able to complete an outreach project where we created 40 field signs to label our local agriculture crops. We received financial support from NACD and the Idaho Wheat Commission. The District will use these all metal signs for many years of education and outreach for local crops. In 2021 we were able to implement these signs and received amazing feed back from our community and surrounding areas.

MOSES MOUNTAIN SEDIMENT
REDUCTION PROJECT

Benewah SWCD partnered with the Benewah County Road Department to replace four undersized and failing culverts and install three new ditch relief culverts in the Upper Hangman Creek drainage on Moses Mountain Road near Tensed, ID. The project also included surfacing approximately 1,500' of road with 3/4" rock, relocating the dumpster away from the intersection, and rocking approximately 150' of ditch line. New culverts and rock surfacing will help significantly reduce sediment and nutrients introduced to Hangman Creek and improve the general road condition. Funding was supported through the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality 319 Nonpoint Source Management subgrant.
